    Ground fire vs Crown fire?

    User Avatar
Ground fires occur when the fire front is burning within the duff or organic soils. These fires are characterized by smoldering as this substrate is limited in oxygen necessary for combustion. These are a concern, especially in northern climates, as these ecosystems have historically been net CO2 sinks. Fires may reverse this process, leading to overall carbon emissions. Crown fires occur when the surface fires (fires burning in the litter, shrubs, and grasses) release enough energy to bridge the distance between the overstory and surface. Rather than smoldering, these fires are characterized by flaming combustion and great increases in rate sof spread and heat release. This poses a great deal of danger to firefighters and may result in high tree mortality.

What do firefighters do when there's no fire?

    User Avatar
In addition to their obvious role, firefighters also function as medical responders. They get dispatched to emergencies in the hopes that they can provide some medical aid before paramedics arrive. When there are no calls to respond to, firefighters do the following: Preparing — Firefighters need to make sure they are ready at a moment’s notice. This involves checking that the trucks and equipment are always in good working order. Training — Firefighters are constantly required to learn new skills. This includes medical training as well as fitness and equipment training. Public Outreach — Firefighters sometimes speak at special events and cover topics ranging from exit drills in the 手机500彩票客户端 to wildfire safety. Reporting — Firefighters are required to document every incident they respond to, no matter what.

What are the three legs of the fire triangle?

    User Avatar
Oxygen, Fuel and Heat - all required for a fire to burn. Modern models include "chemical reaction", making it a fire tetrahedron. This was added to explain the relationship between the other three legs. In other words, you手机500彩票客户端 could have fuel, oxygen and heat, but you手机500彩票客户端 won't have "fire"until there is a chemical reaction, usually with sufficient heat to make it a chain reaction.

What is the divorce rate for firefighters?

    User Avatar
About 75% of all firefighter's marriages end in divorce. The divorce rate for firefighters is 3x higher than the rest of the United States, second only to military. My husband is a firefighter and we never had any friends that we knew of that were getting divorced until he became a firefighter. At least once every 6 months he comes 手机500彩票客户端 to tell me of another guy who is getting divorced because of infidelity/relationship strain and he works for a small department. My marriage was heading down that same path and blew up in my face 1 week before Christmas '08. It is looking like we may be able to work this out but it is very sad that fire departments don't step up and implement programs/groups within each department to help keep these statistics from growing! I for one will not stand for this any longer! We wives of these men are so many times left to blow in the wind with our children. I have struggled for so many years asking my husband have they come up with a support group yet for us wives? His answer is always the same....no no no... We must step up and take control our families! We have the power to save our marriage and the marriage of other brave men and women who choose this as their profession. Get together with other wives start going out to dinner once a month, once you手机500彩票客户端 get to know these women this will then have a support group. Can you手机500彩票客户端 be a firefighter with a misdemeanor?

No problem, most departments will look at the type of misdemeanor. Violent or sexual crimes aren't good to have. You are looking to be a public servant, you手机500彩票客户端 are held to a higher standard. But usually there is a time frame in place for certain major misdemeanors. 3-5 years is standard, 7 years in more strict departments. Be upfront with the department, tell them what you手机500彩票客户端 have on you手机500彩票客户端r record and ask if it will be a problem. Better yet, go run you手机500彩票客户端r criminal history and see what pops up. go to you手机500彩票客户端r local craft store and see what new gadgets they have for knitters but for the most part those long needles and yarn find some of those patterns for different types of stitching Answer My knitter just loved the gift I gave of having perosonalized labels made for her...said something like " Caringly Handmade by Mary Smith". They are available, fairly inexpensively, at knitting stores, and through ads in some magazines. Takes a few weeks for delivery. (Don't be misled, the ones that are custom stiched or embroidered were very expensive). Answer My mother-in-law crochets and I found some really cool craft books on Amazon.com. They were well-priced and had a wide variety of patterns. Answer Being a knitter, I would have to say a gift card to a yarn store above all, then would be high quality yarn or patterns. What is the job availability for a firefighter?

    User Avatar
The following is written by and according to the U.S. Department of Labor and particular the job projections for firefighters. Although employment is expected to grow faster than the average for all jobs, candidates for these positions are expected to face keen competition because these positions are highly attractive and sought after. Employment change. Employment of fire fighters is expected to grow by 19 percent over the 2008-18 decade, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Most job growth will stem from volunteer fire fighting positions being converted to paid positions. In recent years, it has become more difficult for volunteer fire departments to recruit and retain volunteers, perhaps because of the considerable amount of training and time commitment required. Furthermore, a trend toward more people living in and around cities has increased the demand for fire fighters. When areas develop and become more densely populated, emergencies and fires affect more buildings and more people and, therefore, require more fire fighters. Job prospects. Prospective fire fighters are expected to face keen competition for available job openings. Many people are attracted to fire fighting because (1) it is challenging and provides the opportunity to perform an essential public service, (2) a high school education is usually sufficient for entry, and (3) a pension is usually guaranteed after 25 years of service. Consequently, the number of qualified applicants in most areas far exceeds the number of job openings, even though the written examination and physical requirements eliminate many applicants. This situation is expected to persist in coming years. Applicants with the best chances are those who are physically fit and score the highest on physical-conditioning and mechanical aptitude exams. Those who have completed some fire fighter education at a community college and have EMT or paramedic certification will have an additional advantage. How much do firefighters make?

    User Avatar
I am a recruit in the Baltimore City Fire Acadmey. I am paid bi-weekly at $1157 Gross equaling approximately 30 k a year. ....not much One must not look at only pay, but benefits as well. In Florida, most firefighters receive excellent insurance and retirement packages. I have only been a firefighter for 4 years, and to receive my same take 手机500彩票客户端 pay (if I paid my own retirement and insurance) and I worked a normal 40 hour per week job, I would need almost $33 per hour to keep my pay. Not bad for a high school diploma. This amounts to about $65K per year (including fringe benefits). Salary only is around $40k with take 手机500彩票客户端 pay at just under $600 per week. I will retire at age 46, with my retirement checks of over $4K per month for the rest of my life (with a 3% raise each year). That's assuming I only promote one time in my entire career. District Chiefs (lowest level chief) can receive take 手机500彩票客户端 retirement checks of over $7K per month, for their ENTIRE life; with salary and fringe benefits of over $130K per year. New York, by contrasts pays 5 year firefighters over $80K per year, but their cost of living is incredible. I say Florida has it pretty good, if you手机500彩票客户端're with a decent department. My wife is a dental hygienist in Florida, and I am a firefighter. I work 10 days a month, and she only works 30 hours per week. We make over $100K per year (including my fringe benefits) and have three vehicles (all paid cash), two four wheelers, a motorcycle and a new 手机500彩票客户端 in a gated golf community. Can a felon be a firefighter?

    User Avatar
In the State of Illinois, a convicted felon can serve as a volunteer firefighter. However, most departments/districts require background checks on perspective members and most volunteer districts/departments will not allow convicted felons to serve on their department. I do know of 2 volunteer departments in central Illinois that currently have convicted felons serving as volunteers because, the nature of their felonies were not violent. In short it all depends on the by-laws of each individual department and/or district. I don't know of any volunteer department or district that will allow a person convicted of a violent crime to serve as a volunteer firefighter.

What does the term 'Jakes' mean as reference to firefighters?

    User Avatar
New England affectionate slang for Firefighter. This word was first used as a reference to firemen in the early 20th century in the Greater Boston area, and its origins are recognized as officially unknown by several authors. While it is now a widely accepted term in the fire service, it is almost exclusively used in New England, and almost exclusively used to bestow great praise and the highest levels of respect. To be called a "Good Jake" is the highest form of praise a Boston area firefighter can possibly receive from a peer. The term "Jake" is most probably derived from the term "J-Key". The first street-corner fire alarm box system was invented and constructed in the city of Boston, and was based on a telegraph system, novel in its day. Inside each box, next to the automatic alarm mechanism that tripped when someone pulled the hook, there was a small telegraph tapper, called a telegraph key, that firemen could use to communicate back to headquarters once they arrived on scene. As time passed, many World War One veterans had become Boston firefighters, and the telegraphs that these men were familiar with were the U.S. Army issue J-3 portable telegraph key (known as the WWI "trench key"), as well as other military J-Series telegraph keys, which were all known commonly as "J-Keys". These veterans probably used this as a common slang for the keys they used inside their fire alarm boxes. Being a "Good J-Key" probably meant a fireman who was cool under the pressure and could send clear Morse code. "J-Key" was eventually shortened to "Jake", and when spread to the public, "Jake" came to be a common term for firemen in general. My neighbor is a Boston Jake. That guy from Ladder 29 will always be there when the going gets tough. He's a Good Jake. From Urbandictionary.com definition #19 under "Jake"
